More than 20,000 people cheered as they arrived at Windsor's Guildhall for their small private civil wedding. Paddy Harverson told the BBC: "People will really get to respect and enjoy and like the couple." But there would not be a publicity campaign, he added. He also said the Queen was "delighted" for her son and Mrs Parker Bowles, and "we would see that delight today". And there was more support for the marriage than people realised, he said. 'Twists and turns' "We have had 15,000 letters over the last eight weeks and less than 1% have been negative and against the marriage," he said. He disputed that lots of things had gone wrong in the run-up to the wedding in the way suggested in the press.

"We have had some twists and turns along the way, but the most important thing for us is the fundamentals have been right from the very beginning and are again today," he said. "The Queen has supported the marriage right from the beginning, which was very important of course to approve it officially. "The Church is right behind it, the Archbishop of Canterbury will be here today presiding. The government has given its full support for it and, I think most important of all, the people. "The polls suggest consistent support for the idea of the marriage. And while there has been negative coverage in the press over the twists and turns of the planning, the most important thing is the idea. "Everyone supports that, or a large number of people do. We are concentrating on that."

He said the Queen was very much in support of the marriage saying her non-attendance at the civil service was not a snub. For her and the rest of the Royal Family, he said, the centrepiece of the day was the service of prayer and dedication in St George's Chapel, while she was also showing her support by giving the reception. 'Unhappy situation' Responding to questions over the prince's handshake with Zimbabwe's controversial leader President Mugabe at the funeral of Pope John Paul II, Mr Harverson said: "Well he was actually very angry, to be honest. "He was not expecting to be put near President Mugabe and when he was, he was disappointed and then Mr Mugabe made every point of going across and grabbing his hand during the 'may peace be with you' section, so he had very little choice. "But he has made clear in the past his distaste of the abhorrent regime that Mugabe runs, he has met with opposition leaders and he donates to victims of the oppressive regime. "It has been an unhappy situation, but one that we are moving on from." 原文出处 http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/4427275.stm Last Updated: Sunday, 10 April, 2005, 02:39 GMT 03:39 UK

  Fashionistas praise Camilla style

Fashion critics singled out the duchess's hats for praise Fashion experts have praised the new Duchess of Cornwall for her choice of wedding outfits.

For the civil ceremony, the Duchess wore an oyster silk basket-weave coat with herringbone stitch embroidery and a chiffon dress with appliqué detail, designed by Robinson Valentine. Philip Treacy designed her hat, which was natural straw overlaid with ivory French lace and trimmed with feathers. He also designed her headdress for the blessing at St George's Chapel, which consisted of gold leafed feathers tipped with Swarovski Diamonds. The Duchess of Cornwall wore a full lengthporcelain blue silk dress with a hand painted ikat design, hand-embroidered with gold thread work. "Robinson Valentine believed the dress required a sense of occasion for St George's Chapel and so the aim was a flowing, elegant line, concentrating on proportion, fit and silhouette," Clarence House said. The Duchess's shoes were by Linda Bennett of LK Bennett. 'Stunning' outfit Sandra Boler, consultant editor and former editor of Brides magazine, said the first outfit was "stunning". "The outfit had to look stunning but not over the top in the Guildhall, and it really worked," she said.

"I think Camilla's choices were brave, unusual and without doubt a triumph

Elizabeth Emanuel Princess Diana's designer "The colour is right, the style is right - it is elegant and gently romantic. "The colour goes perfectly with her hair and her fair complexion, everything about it was very flattering." She said the Duchess's outfit at St George's Chapel was "utterly beautiful and totally tasteful, perfect for a blessing for a second marriage." The Observer's Polly Vernon also said the dresses worked, but was slightly less enthusiastic. "Camilla managed to play it safe while simultaneously scrubbing up really well and with something approaching assurance and aplomb," she wrote. Adding that the outfits were "...very pretty in their own elegant and upper-arm-obscuring way," she said the first dress "will undoubtedly set the standard for middle-aged women marrying for the second time." And she praised the hats: "The two Philip Treacy headdresses provided dashes of structure, drama and exoticism." 'Inspired hats' The Times' fashion editor Claudia Croft critiqued the outfits under a headline which said it all: "Camilla's style wins over the fashionistas." She wrote that Camilla was elegant and understated. The Sunday Express quoted fashion designer Bruce Oldfield saying: "You could say she scrubs up well." "I'm sure she's not looking to replace Diana - she's her own woman and she's proved that today." He too singled out Philip Treacy's hats for praise, saying they were "inspired".

Observers and critics alike had to admit the long-term partner of Prince Charles looked stunning as she wore, not one, but two perfect wedding outfits

Daily Mail Elizabeth Emanuel, who designed Princess Diana's wedding dress, wrote in the Sunday Mirror that Camilla had "proved she could turn on the style and elegance with the best of them." "She looked elegant, refined and beautiful in the two outfits she chose." "I think Camilla's choices were brave, unusual and without doubt a triumph," she concluded. The News of the World said Camilla looked "sensational". Under a sub-caption "So elegant", the People wrote that Camilla had chosen "two gorgeous outfits for her big day". It said thatthe blue overgown she wore to the blessing was "stunning" with "exquisite" embroidery. "The long chiffon gown beneath swished and swirled beautifully as she swept down the aisle," it gushed. The Daily Mail said Camilla "didn't disappoint". "Observers and critics alike had to admit the long-term partner of Prince Charles looked stunning as she wore, not one, but two perfect wedding outfits," it said.
