Why is everyone treating Boston’s success like it’s a magic formula? Looks pretty simple, to us.

Let Dwight Howard catch the ball anywhere and anytime he wants to catch it, because:

1. His postgame is about as robotic and rudimentary as you’ll ever see in a franchise player, and frankly, just bad enough to get Patrick Ewing fired.

2. He’ll never make an opponent pay for the hacks you’re going to slap on him at point-blank range.

3. His left hand is something out of Geek Middle School Follies.

4. Once the doubles and digs arrive, he can’t find shooters if his life depended on it.

This Orlando failure is all on Dwight Howard, Dwight Howard, Dwight Howard.

He is criminally unprepared for life in the trench, which is inexcusable for someone who has been in the league for six years.

Can’t wait to see the overreaction that comes out of central Florida after the Magic get dumped tonight. Fire Stan. Upgrade at the point. Trade Rashard (lots of luck with that). Get Vince a heart transplant. Find some toughness. Stop burying Brandon Bass.

It’s none of that. The Orlando problem is very simple: Their franchise player, a defensive stalwart, is not good enough. He has to get better, period.

And he has one summer to decide whether he wants to continue to be an offensive liability, because right now, the Celtics look absolutely giddy when the ball goes into the post.

Yes, Boston excels at exposing weaknesses. The Cavs found that out the hard way. But if Howard doesn’t go into this summer with a chip on his shoulder and come out of it with a 12-foot jump shot and a six-foot hook, he’s not half the player we thought he would be.
