British comedian John Oliver gets his own show on Comedy Central

　　British comedian John Oliver, who stars on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, is to host his own show on Comedy Central, the US cable channel.

　　Oliver, who is styled "British correspondent" on the satirical news show, will front a six episode series called John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show. The series starts on Jan 8 and will also feature other comedians and be produced by avalon, the independent UK production company. Oliver said: "It's the most worthwhile way you could spend an hour each week that doesn't involve getting Mount Rushmore gradually tattooed across your stomach." Elizabeth Porter, Comedy Central's senior vice president, said Oliver was "an exceptional stand-up comic".
