Description

Jade vine is an evergreen twining vine with thick woody stems an inch or more in diameter and growing to 70 ft (21.3 m) or more in length. The leaves are trifoliate with three oblong leaflets, each about 3-5 in (7.6-12.7 cm) long, the middle one largest. In spring and early summer jade vine bears bluish green claw shaped flowers 3-5 in (7.6-12.7 cm) long in huge hanging clusters up to 5 ft (1.5 m) or more in length. The inflorescence is truly amazing. The cylindrical pea pods which follow are about 2 in (5.1 cm) long.

绿玉藤，又名碧玉藤、翠翠葛（Strongylodon macrobotrys），豆科常绿大型藤本，茎木质，直径可达1英尺，长可达21.3 m。叶为三出复叶，小叶长椭圆形，长7.6-12.7 cm，中间小叶最长。春季至初夏开花，花蓝绿色，形似鸟爪，多朵小花成簇聚集在一起，组成长达3-5英尺或更长的下垂式总状花序， 它的花序极为壮观。

Location

Jade vine is native to the Philippines where it grows in tropical rain forests. 绿玉藤原产地在菲律宾的热带雨林中。

Culture

Jade vine grows best in neutral to acidic soils.绿玉藤宜种植物在中性至酸性的土壤中。

Light: Grow jade vine in full sun with some shade at midday. It performs best where its roots are in the shade and its top in the sun.

光照：绿玉藤喜全光照，中午阳光过强时需遮阴。最好是根部处于隐蔽处而地上部分处于全光照下。

Moisture: Water freely during the growing season and sparingly in winter.

水分：生长季最好多浇水而冬季则少浇水

Hardiness: USDA Zones 10 - 11. Jade vine is a tropical liana that does not tolerate frost. Maintain winter temperatures at 60oF (15.6oC) or above.

耐寒性：绿玉藤是一种热带藤蔓植物，因此不耐霜冻。冬季温度需保持在15.6oC以上。

Propagation: Pieces of semiripe stem can be rooted with bottom heat. Seed should be sown as soon as ripe at 80oF (26.7oC) or above.

繁殖：剪取半成熟的茎扦插于底部加热的沙床中就可以生根。种子成熟后最好及早播种，但播种温度要维持在26.7oC以上。

Usage

Jade vine is grown in tropical landscapes, trained to a stout trellis, arch or pergola. The pendulous festoons of blue green blossoms are spectacular when viewed from below. Jade vine is sometimes grown in tubs in the greenhouse.

用途：

绿玉藤可以应用于热带地区的绿化造景中，可将其修剪整形为格架、拱门或凉棚。它那一串串的蓝绿色花序从下面望去极为壮观。也可将其栽植在大桶中放入温室中欣赏。

Features

The aquamarine color of jade vine's flowers is nearly unique in the plant kingdom. Hanging amidst lush tropical foliage, the flowers are practically luminescent. Jade vine is cultivated in Hawaii for the flowers which are used in leis.
