While the Army downplayed reports on Chinese intrusion in Ladakh, the government on Monday denied that any such incident had taken place.

Reacting to the reports about Chinese troops’ intrusion in the Demchok area of Leh district in J&K, Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao said, “We have time and again said that there are differences in perception of the Line of Actual Control in this segment… As far as this particular incident, we are not aware of specific transgression….”

The MEA said, “[敏*感*词] has seen media reports alleging Chinese troop intrusion in the Demchok area of Leh district in Jammu and Kashmir. These reports are baseless and do not conform to fact.”

Army Chief General V K Singh said, “Unfortunately, some people for various local gains have pushed construction activity in that area. We patrol up to our perception of the LAC which is further east of this (the area reported to have been transgressed) and the Chinese come to the LAC as perceived by them… I am quite sure on the Chinese side also they would call it a transgression when our patrols go up to our line of perception.”
