FEEL LIKE MY HEARTWAS THROWN IN A BLENDER AND SOMEBODY SWITCHED IT ON Julie MorelJulie Morel持有在巴黎和里昂的国家高级美术学校学位,并获得了众多奖项和奖学金。 NOTHING Julie MorelBLANK Julie Morel text by Katerina Biliouri for Yatzer Julie Morel is a French graphic designer with a number of solo and collective exhibitions, video installations and interactive projects. But what really caught Yatzer's eye is her "Organs".
Organs is a series of large scale drawings, derived from the typography of the same name, which was developed in collaboration with Jocelyn Cottencin.
Morel's drawings are lingering between fact and fiction, graphic art and drawing, memory and subconscious. Words such as "fingers", "empty", "alone", "nothing" and "blank" are transformed into an organic synthesis, reminding of organic flesh. The choice of the specific subject is definitely not the easiest for the viewer to grasp, as it creates numerous thoughts and reactions. However, the strong emotional impact of her drawings is exactly Morel's aim. According to the artist " .. the starting point of my work is a challenge to my subconscious, memory, habits, and assumptions".
It is obvious that she has fully studied the interpretation of incoming stimuli through the encoding process of her drawings. The letters in each word are extended to their maximum and are intertwined with one another, just like flesh. The messages conveyed from each word have a strong impact to the viewer, as they are connected to something alive, to an organic substance that creates a strange unusual feeling.
Julie Morel holds degrees from the National Superior Fine Art Schools in Paris and Lyon and has been awarded with numerous prizes and grants. She definitely succeeds in her goal; her work is a challenge to our subconscious and our perceptions on letters and typography.
